About Southsea Rowing Club
Founded in 1860, the Southea Rowing Club has a long, proud tradition of offering the thrill of coastal rowing from complete novices to experienced oarsmen and women.
Best of both worlds
Because we’re situated in Portsmouth, we belong to both the Hants and Dorset Amateur Rowing Association and the Coastal Amateur Rowing Association (CARA). That means we compete in regattas as far west as Swanage and as far east as Dover, and every summer, we welcome clubs from both associations at our annual Southsea Regatta. We’re also a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC).
The racing season
Racing begins with head races — 5K time trials — early in the year, providing a good opportunity for crews to see how they perform against other clubs whilst continuing to train for the upcoming regatta season! From May to September, rowers compete at regattas on 2K courses. There are also opportunities to enter head races in the autumn, and indoor ergo competitions in winter.
Training and fitness
You can start rowing in our Junior programme as young as 14, and compete in races by age group. After that, you can compete in the open competitions at various levels. We welcome all ages!
Southsea Rowing Club is a great place to meet new people. We regularly host social events, including our annual Oarsman supper. We’ve got a private bar and a building which offers fabulous views of the sea.
Club membership is £15 per month for members and £11.25 per month for junior members (aged 14 to 18), paid by direct debit. Check our Essential Information page for membership forms and more information.
